The Medellín Flower Festival (Feria de las Flores) is Colombia's most visually spectacular festival — a ten-day celebration in August centred on the Desfile de Silleteros, in which flower farmers from the mountains above Medellín carry elaborate flower arrangements (silletas) on their backs through the city streets. The silletas weigh up to 80kg and can contain over 50,000 flowers — the craftsmanship is extraordinary. The festival also includes concerts, horse parades, classic car shows, and the transformation of Medellín's parks into flower exhibitions.
